The Management
and staff of the European Patent Office are deeply shocked and saddened by news
of the horrific attacks which took place in Barcelona and Cambrils.
As an
international
organisation, the European Patent Office strongly condemns this appalling act of hatred,
which has taken so many lives. It believes in an open and inclusive society
based on the fundamental principles of freedom, equality, justice and
tolerance. We are convinced that the attacks will never be able to destroy
these principles.
We stand in
solidarity with the people of Spain and our heartfelt sympathy goes to the
victims, their families, relatives and friends. As a symbol of our solidarity
with Spain and the Spanish people, and out of respect for the victims, the
flags in front of our buildings are flying at half-mast.
