Intellectual Property Law Reading Group – King’s College London
PhD candidates Nazanin Aslani and Jingwen Guo from King’s College London have organised an Intellectual Property Law Reading Group, which aims to aims to cover timely IP Law issues, to form an IP community across different universities and institutions, and to provide a networking platform for IP enthusiasts, students, academics, and practitioners. The first session will be on ‘Intellectual Property Law and Culture’ and is envisaged for Wednesday, 25 September 2019, from 5-6 pm at SW1.17 at the Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London, Somerset House East Wing, London, W2R 2LS. Light refreshments will be served at the event.

How much is too much – Excessive Pharmaceutical Prices in European Competition Law & Regulation
CeBIL (Centre for Advanced Studies in Biomedical Innovation Law) in Copenhagen is hosting a conference to discuss the issue of excessive pharmaceutical prices from perspectives of patent law, R&D and incentives to innovate, competition law and anti-competitive practices as well as human rights and access to medicines. The event aims to have a true multi-stakeholder perspective on this complex topic to find sustainable solutions for innovation and access in regards to pharmaceuticals.

Talk with Mark Davidson – Plain Packaging: Where is it at and what are the implications for other products?
City, University of London is hosting a seminar on Thursday 26th September 2019 at 5pm to provide some insight into the current status of the long running litigation concerning plain packaging and commentary on the possible implications of WTO law and international investment law for both tobacco and other goods and services.

Call for papers from Stockholm University –
The Stockholm Intellectual Property Law Review (SIPLR) welcomes submissions for its two next issues. Authors are invited to submit original research papers, essays and book reviews on either General Topics of European and International International IP Law, and on Food, the latter resulting in SIPLR’s second thematic issue.

ATRIP Essay Competition 2019 for Young Researchers in Intellectual Property Law
ATRIP’s Executive Committee is proud to launch its annual essay competition for young researchers in IP law. The paper may pertain to any topic related to IP law. Papers may be submitted in English or French. Entries should be submitted to [email protected] no later than 17 February, 2020. The author of the paper should be no older than 35 years of age as of December 31, 2020.

Job Opportunities – 

Use your experience in intellectual property law to become a judge –
The Judicial Appointments Commission is recruiting for 2 roles: Fee-paid Appointed Person, Appeal Tribunal, Trade Marks; and Fee-paid Appointed Person, Appeal Tribunal, Registered and Unregistered Design.
This is a rare opportunity for legal practitioners with knowledge and experience of intellectual property law to become a judge, called an Appointed Person in these 2 tribunals. These roles are fee-paid (part-time). Appointed Persons hear appeals from decisions by officers of the Intellectual Property Office (IPO), acting on behalf of the Comptroller of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks under the Registered Designs Act 1949, and the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, including those resulting from the IPO’s opinions service. Applications open on 2nd October, with the closing date for applications on 16th October at 1pm. For more details, see here.
