Aidan Robson (1960-2020)

It was with great sadness that the IPKat has learned of the death of patent attorney, Aidan Robson, on 20 September 2020 from a heart attack.

Aidan was a well-known figure in the patent community in the UK and abroad. Fresh from his MSc at Oxford University in hypersonic aerodynamics, Aidan joined Reddie & Grose in 1987 where he was both a patent and trade mark attorney and a leading force in the firm’s Electronics and Software and Trade Marks groups. He became a partner in 1993.

An active member of APPA and INTA (as well as CIPA, CITMA, LES and AIPPI), Aidan became known as the “public face” of the Reddie & Grose team through his involvement in international IP efforts. Jan Vleck (Partner, Reddie & Grose) remembers Aidan:

“Aidan was a respected IP practitioner who had a deserved reputation for giving focused commercially helpful advice. He was also a valued and trusted mentor to a number of trainees who have gone onto great things. As those who knew Aidan will confirm, he enjoyed an audience and was a natural joke teller. Laughter is something closely associated with Aidan.”

Jan notes that before Aidan died, he was out doing two of the things he enjoyed most – cycling and being with friends.

The IPKat team expresses its heartfelt condolences to Aidan’s family, friends and colleagues.

If you would like to leave a memory of Aidan in the comment section below, please do so. The comments will be passed to Jan Vleck to share with Aidan’s family, friends and colleagues.
