New InterKat

 

Speaking of Tuesday Wonders, Merpel and the rest of the Kats are delighted to welcome Giorgio Luceri, as a new InternKat for the next six months.  Giorgio is currently working as a trainee at Noerr in Alicante (Spain) in the Intellectual Property and Media Department.  He is qualified for admission to the Bar in Italy (idoneo all’esercizio della professione forense) and has worked as an intern at the EUIPO in the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights. Giorgio holds an LL.M. in Intellectual Property from the University of Turin with the WIPO Academy and the International Training Centre of the ILO and a Master’s degree in Law from the University of Perugia.  More information about Giorgio can be found here.

WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Centre & the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea – Presentation of the Results of the WIPO MCST Survey (online event)

 

On 18 November 2021, this online event will present the results of the survey on the current use of ADR mechanisms to handle B2B disputes related to digital copyright and digital content.  Drawing on more than 1,000 responses from a wide range of stakeholders in 129 countries, the report is a unique source of information on which to base the development of tailored ADR mechanisms.  The event will feature presentations by the authors of the report and WIPO Center staff.

ALAI Canada The Supreme Court of Canada in Access Copyright… Again! (online event)

 

On 19 November 2021, two panelists of ALAI Canada, Prof. Paul Daly (University of Ottawa) and Prof. Daniel Gervais (Vanderbilt University), will exchange their views on the recent decision of the Supreme Court of Canada, whereby the Court opposed Access Copyright to York University in an upcoming Zoom event.

IViR, Universiteit van Amsterdam – How to Regulate AI? (hybrid event)

 

On 26 November 2021, Prof. Mireille Hildebrandt will give an online lecture on “How to Regulate AI?” as part of the Lecture Series by Instituut voor Informatierecht.  Perhaps rather self-explanatory, the lecture will reflect on what it means to develop legal norms to regulate the computational systems.  Legislation such as the proposed EU AI Act will be also discussed.

IFIM Holiday Seminar – Tales of the New Doctors of Law (physical event)

 

The Institutet för Immaterialrätt och Marknadsrätt (IFIM) at Stockholm University will be running its traditional Holiday Seminar on 7 December 2021.  This year’s event will be an in-person one at Stockholm University.  Three junior researchers will each be explaining an important decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union followed by a short commentary by a senior researcher or professional.

CIP Forum

 

The Centre for Intellectual Property (CIP) will be holding its flagship event, the CIP Forum, from 9 to 11 December 2021.  This year’s CIP Forum will cover a wide range of topics, from AI, IP management, 3D printing to diversity in innovation.

IPAN – IP Researcher

 

The Intellectual Property Awareness Network (IPAN) is seeking an enthusiastic IP savvy researcher interested in writing a short history of the Network: www.ipaware.org (5,000 to 10,000 words) by June 2022.  A modest honorarium will be payable.  IPAN was founded in 1993 as the Intellectual Property Awareness Group by the late Dr John Reid, then President of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA).
