Conference on the 25th Anniversary of the EU Biotechnology Directive 98/44/EC
This two-day conference will take place on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 September 2023 at Maynooth University, Ireland. The event, organised by Professor Aisling McMahon (Maynooth University), Dr Karen Walsh (Maynooth University), and Professor Naomi Hawkins (University of Sheffield) aims to assess the role, operation and impact of the Biotechnology Directive at 25 years and to explore the future likely challenges for the Directive.
Intellectual property academics, practitioners and those interested in the regulation of biotechnological inventions are encouraged to attend. There is no fee to attend, but registration is required via Eventbrite.
ChIPs European Summit 2023
ChIPs Europe is holding its Third European Summit in Brussels on 21 September. Attendance is in-person for in-house counsel, judges, law firm attendees, or others; there is a virtual option for in-house counsel and judges.
ChIPs is a nonprofit professional organization that advances and connects women in technology, law and policy.

For those interested in patents, a new podcast has been launched on Spotify: IP Provocations, a podcast by Professors Rebecca Giblin and Kimberlee Weatherall. The podcast is a project of the Intellectual Property Research Institute of Australia (IPRIA), with additional support from IP Australia, Melbourne Law School, and Sydney Law School. The series asks: “Patents are supposed to facilitate cutting edge science and innovation, and enable the spread of ideas and knowledge. But is that how they actually work in practice?”
