On 26 January 2024, the Unified Patent Court
(UPC) and Italy signed the formal agreement on the Headquarters of the third
seat of the UPC Central Division in Milan. The finalization of the agreement
was announced with a press
release by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The agreement was
signed in Milan between the Italian
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UPC, represented by the President
of the UPC Court of Appeals, Klaus Grabinski.
The headquarters’ Agreement follows the
decision of the Administrative
Committee of the Unified Patent Court of June last on the creation of
the Milan seat of Central Division to replace the former London section (see The

and here).
The Milan seat will start its operations on 1st
June 2024 and will have jurisdiction over patent disputes in the “human
necessities” sector, thus including pharmaceutical and medical device
industries, agricultural industry, food industry, tobacco industry, home
appliances industry, clothing industry, wood and furniture industry,
fire-fighting industry, sports and gaming industry.
