With summer in full swing in the Northern hemisphere, it might perhaps feel natural to long for things other than IP, but there is plenty of IP-related activity happening before and right after the hot months. DABUS … in Germany
First of all, some hot-off-the-press news: the German Federal Court of Justice (BGH) has just published its decision on AI inventorship, substantially concluding that a human contribution (not necessarily inventive) is invariably needed, even for AI-generated inventions. The person who has made such a contribution must be identified and designated as inventor.

XXXVI Nordic NIR Meeting 2024 (1 – 3 September)
The Finnish Association for Industrial Property Rights will host the 36th Nordic NIR Meeting in Helsinki from 1 to 3 September 2024. This year’s conference will focus on:
- Nordic perspectives on recent developments in IP law
- The relationship between AI and IP, including issues of creation and infringement
- Reflections of the UPC’s first year from a Nordic viewpoint
- Nordic approaches to evidence considerations in IP trials

GRUR Annual Meeting 2024 (18 – 20 September)
The Bavarian Regional Group of the German Association for Intellectual Property Law (GRUR) is organizing this year’s GRUR Annual Meeting 2024, which will take place from 18 to 20 September in Augsburg.
