The World Trade Organization seeks to recruit the Chief of the newly created Digital Trade and Frontier Technologies Unit. The selected candidate will coordinate and oversee the Secretariat’s cross-divisional work on digital aspects of trade in goods and services, IP rights and new technologies. CodeFest 2024 on generative AI.

The European Patent Office is organizing the second edition of CodeFest 2024. The competition focuses on developing a generative AI application that transforms how users access, interpret and leverage patent data. Coders or developers residing in one of the EPO’s member states must submit their proposals for solutions by 8 August 2024. The grand prize winner will be awarded with €20,000. Conference Digital Knowledge – The Library and Copyright in a Global Digital Economy.

The National Library of Sweden, in collaboration with the national IPO Swedish Intellectual Property Office (PRV) and the Stockholm Centre for Commercial Law at the Law Faculty at Stockholm University, will hold the Conference Digital Knowledge – The Library and Copyright in a Global Digital Economy. The event will take place on 12 and 13 September 2024 in Stockholm. The program will discuss inter alia the role of copyrighted materials in AI training, Machine Learning and Text and Data Mining; the economics of regulating AI; and the changes derived from recent legislations, including the DSM Directive. JIPLP Special Issue on Fashion and IP.

The Journal of Intellectual Property Law & Practice (JIPLP) is calling for articles for its special issue on fashion law, which will be published in late 2024 or early 2025. Pieces for submission shall be 4000-7000 words long, previously unpublished, covering a new issue, topic, line of case law, policy and legislative developments relevant to the fashion sector. The deadline for submissions is 30 September 2024. More information is available here.

4iP Council will hold the webinar Infringing AI: Liability for AI-generated outputs under EU/UK copyright law on 19 September 2024. WIPO’s Accessible Books Consortium.

The Accessible Books Consortium (ABC) celebrated its first 10 Years by releasing a special video shown during the Assemblies of Member States of WIPO. ABC also informed that its Global Book Service catalogue will increase by more than one million titles thanks to the recent partnership with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) of the United Kingdom. Last but not least, nominations are open for the 2024 ABC International Excellence Award for Accessible Publishing. The application form (in English, French or Spanish) for the publisher and project initiative categories shall be sent to [email protected] by September 16, 2024.

WIPO-Harvard Law School PatentX Course.

Registration is open for the WIPO-Harvard Law School PatentX Course, which lasts 12 weeks and is offered twice a year. At the end of the course, a certificate jointly signed by WIPO and Harvard Law School is awarded. Register before 15 August 2024. The online course will start on 9 September 2024. WIPO Lex-Judgments expanded its coverage.

WIPO Lex-Judgments has expanded its coverage to 41 jurisdictions with the addition of Panama and Paraguay. The database was launched in 2020 (see this TechieKat post here) and offers free access to judicial decisions on IP matters worldwide. Consult WIPO Lex-Judgments here.
