On July 8, the Union of European Practitioners in Intellectual Property (UNION-IP) is organising an online discussion with Lisa Jorgenson, Deputy Director General, Patents and Technology Sector (WIPO), who will talk about the latest news and developments from WIPO. Registration is available here.

On July 9, the UK IPO and London’s Global University (UCL IBIL) are holding a webinar on “AI and Copyright: What Now?”. Organisers will discuss the most prominent copyright-related issues that arose from the UK’s public consultation on artificial intelligence and intellectual property. The event is free of charge, and registration is available here.

On July 19, the Competition Law Association will be discussing “Options for the UK’s future IP exhaustion regime”, an issue that has taken on greater prominence post-Brexit. Participation is free for members of the Association, while there will be a charge of £10 for non-members.

On September 29-October 1, the Association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale (ALAI) is holding its annual conference in Madrid, on the subject of “Copyright, Competition and Innovation”. On October 5 and 6, Kuhnen and Wacker will hold the 31st European Intellectual Property Seminar (online). The event will cover topics such as the European Patent Convention, computer-implemented inventions, and artificial intelligence.

WIPO, Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and the Ukrainian IPO have opened registration for the Ukraine Summer School on Intellectual Property. The two-week course will be held online and taught in English. Due to the exceptional circumstances this year, all fees for the online WIPO-Ukraine Summer School have been waived and participation will be free of charge. Registration is open until July 10.

The UK IPO has launched a public consultation on the post-implementation review of Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, regarding whether the 2016 amendments achieved their objectives. The call for views is open until August 31. The UK IPO has also published the results of last year’s consultation on the review of the IP enforcement framework.

Common Market Law Review has announced the 2021 Prize for Young Academics. Submissions on any topic on EU law are expected until September 15, 2021. The winning essay will be published in Common Market Law Review and will also receive a monetary prize of 500 euros.

The Journal of the Patent and Trademark Office Society (JPTOS) has announced an open call for submissions by direct email to [email protected] or Scholastica. The journal is seeking articles involving intellectual property law and technology (notably blockchain, cryptocurrencies, NFTs, artificial intelligence, 3D printing, social media, privacy/surveillance, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, COVID vaccine patents, and patent policy, as well as all related fields.
