Conferences
A few months ago, The IPKat and Katfriend Darren Meale announced their collaboration in a new edition of popular trade mark-focused Retromark conference, this time scheduled to be held on 24 March 2020. Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the conference – which had 261 sign-ups along with a great line of speakers – is now postponed until the Autumn. A new date will be announced nearer the time.

“The ‘new’ Trade Mark Law in France” has also been postponed. The French implementation of the EU’s Trade Mark Directive of 2015 will be discussed. The event will take place on 14 May at the same venue, Maison du Barreau, in Paris. The event is free of charge, but has limited capacity, so be sure to register before 27 March.

The INTA Conference “Brands in Society: Their Influence and Responsibility” has been postponed to June 22-23, to be held in the same venue, Convene, in New York City. Check the conference’s website for an updated programme!

INTA’s 2020 Annual Meeting has also been moved to November and will be held in the United States. The exact dates, as well as the agenda, are yet to be announced.

AIJA has moved its 4th Trade Annual Conference, including the seminar “Global perspective on IP and technology” to October. It will be held on 8-10 October in Porto. It will cover such diverse topics as geo-blocking, IP litigation, and fundamental rights and open innovation.

Bird & Bird is also closely monitoring major IP conferences and provides you with an updated information on their status.

Webinars

On April 6, INTA will hold a webinar on “Empowering Indigenous Communities to Make Strategic Use of Intellectual Property”. Speakers include Lynell Tuffery Huria, Robert MacDonald, and Wend Wendland. They will discuss the intersection between indigenous rights and intellectual property rights. For more information and registration, click here.

Staying at home might be a good opportunity to deepen your IP knowledge. Eleonora has compiled a list of free-to-use materials she prepared for her students.

Earlier this week, Cambridge University Press announced the free access to its textbooks. Although it has been temporally suspended due to technical issues, keep a look on the website to access their law books as soon as they reopen.
