Vacancies 

The Law Faculty of the University of Maastricht has opened four four-year positions for PhD candidates. Successful candidates will be offered a full-time contract, starting preferably in September 2021. The deadline for submitting the application is March 15, 2021. 

As part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie European Training Network, the Swedish Law and Informatics Research Institute seeks to fill one doctoral position for a research project on the subject of “’Digital twins’ as a way to help ensure legal compliance of video-based AAL technologies” (Research Project 6). 
The Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law in London offers a one year, full-time contract for a research fellow in artificial intelligence and the rule of law. The deadline for applications is January 17, 2021.

Webinars and conferences 

On January 13, AG Maciej Szpunar will give a virtual guest lecture at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law. AG Szpunar will address the topic of “New challenges to the territoriality of EU law”. Registration is free of charge and is open here until January 12. 
On January 27, the Institute of Intellectual Property of Luxembourg, together with the IP Office of Luxembourg, will hold the Luxembourgish Conference of European case-law on intellectual property. This year’s topic is “Object and function of intellectual property: half a century of CJEU case-law”. Registration is free of charge and is open here until January 22. 
Other 
Our PermaKat Eleonora Rosati was interviewed by the Guardian with regards to a fashion feud between Givenchy and a US designer K. Tyson Perez over the issue of plagiarism and cultural appropriation. Guardian also reviewed previous cases in this area and cited an IPKat post on the IP implications for the cultural heritage of the Maasai tribe.
